CAPRICE DU VIN: In the Moment: A G Major Improvisation
Have you ever had an idea that just needed to get out? A melody that felt like it was already there, just waiting to be played? That's exactly how this new piece came to be.
I recently sat down at my keyboard with a Yamaha CFIII concert grand soundfont loaded into Ableton Live, and what happened next was a pure stream of consciousness. This piece is a raw, unfiltered improvisation—recorded in about 15 minutes, with no edits or changes. It’s exactly as it came to me, with all the spontaneity and energy of the moment.
The song is a bright, happy journey in G major. As you listen, you’ll hear how the music moves quickly, full of high-velocity notes and complex rhythms. I focused on creating a lot of atmosphere and sustain, letting the notes ring out and blend together, which gives the piece a shimmering, spacious feel. It’s an exploration of the keys, filled with fast-paced runs and cascades of sound that reflect the excitement of the moment.
This is just the first step for this piece. I'll likely go back and develop these ideas into a more formal composition down the road, but for now, I wanted to share it in its most genuine form. It's a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful music is the one that's captured in the moment, without a second thought.
I hope you enjoy this raw glimpse into my creative process!
NOTE: These scores are drafts and simply to give an idea of the composition. They are raw and unedited and a direct translation from Midi to Score. I forget my ideas quickly so it’s great to have a record of them!
